Frequently Asked Questions

  • I offer both in-person and virtual! My office is located in Tigard, OR.
Please let me know your preference during our consultation.

Virtual sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform to ensure confidentiality.

    • For virtual sessions, you must attend in a private, confidential space (no public places or while operating a vehicle, please!)

    • Clients must be physically located in the state of Oregon during session for safety + licensure reasons

  • I am an out-of-network provider!

I’m happy to provide superbills upon request (a document or itemized receipt outlining services received by a healthcare provider) that you can send to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

I encourage all clients to reach out to their insurance company about their reimbursement process for mental health services prior to seeking therapy.

If you would like to explore this option further, here are a few suggestions on what to ask your insurance:

    • Is there a deductible that must be met prior to receiving benefits for out-of-network mental health services?

    • Are there any limits to reimbursement? Examples may include: a maximum amount reimbursed per session, or a limit on the number of sessions allowed.

If you do submit an out-of-network claim to your insurance, Grow with Purpose Counseling, LLC, takes no responsibility for pursuing that claim or for your insurance company’s reimbursement decision: These claims are entirely between you and your insurance company.

  • Yes! Counseling sessions are protected with confidentiality but there are some exceptions due to specific laws, standards of care, and reporting. Here are some of the rare scenarios when confidentiality may be broken:

    • When a client poses an imminent danger to themselves or others.

    • When there is suspected child, elder, or dependent abuse.

    • When the therapist receives a qualifying court order mandating participation.

    • When the therapist is required to participate in a federal, state, or board investigation.

    • When it is necessary to obtain payment or provide necessary professional services for treatment.

    • When facilitating client care across multiple providers during emergency crisis interventions or situations.

  • The room is yours - Whether we meet in-person or virtually, I welcome you to make yourself comfortable. My office is designed to be a space where you can show up fully. You’re welcome to take your shoes off, grab a fidget toy, and use the coloring books or grounding stones available. I have a white noise machine with various sound options, so you can choose what helps you feel most centered. Water is always available, and if you’re ever feeling a bit dysregulated, I’ve got a secret stash of candies and mini ice packs to help calm the nervous system.

Candid is encouraged - I want you to feel like you can speak freely in our sessions, and if that means swearing, then so be it! I drop an occasional word too. Sometimes, it's the closest way to express how we’re feeling in the moment, and I totally get that.

How we’ll start - I typically start each session by asking what you’d like for yourself out of the session! If you are here with your partner, I ask each of you what you have in mind. This is an intentional way to let you set the pace for your therapy! It’s okay if you don’t know what you want that day – part of the process is discovering your deeper needs, wants, desires!

We’ll dive in - After setting the intention for the session, we’ll continue exploring your goals, or obstacles that may be in the way. At times, we may pause to check in with your body and process any somatic or physiological shifts that may be occurring, allowing you to release and ground in the present moment.

“Let’s pause here” - At the end of each session, we’ll process the work you’ve done and how you want to continue to build on it! I may highlight strengths I’ve noticed or guide you in offering yourself some gratitude and comfort.

Standard sessions are between 50-55 minutes. Weekly or biweekly sessions are recommended for the most momentum and to maximize progress!

  • The bulk of your work occurs with me in session, and then you are set up to continue building on these insights between sessions!

For some clients, they enjoy having reflective assignments to practice skills learned during therapy sessions. When working with couples, I do typically suggest or encourage a reflective exercise or tool to utilize in between sessions. Any offered reflections are tailored to meet my clients’ specific needs and feasibility.

At the end of each session, we can talk about how you’d like to continue this work on your own or rest to let the work settle in your nervous system!

Any cancellation fees must be paid before you can schedule further sessions. Fees are waived for two absences per year for illness, emergencies, etc.

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate(s).

For questions or more information about your right to a “Good Faith Estimate” go to www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
